18 years ago after teaching in traditional schools for many years, I had the opportunity to observe a Montessori classroom at work. This experience showed me a completely different approach in the way we help our children to learn their life-lasting skills. I am very fortunate to have been introduced to the Montessori Method at Suntree Montessori when I arrived from New York more than 10 years ago. Having been educated in traditional education, I was most amazed at the way the children were working in Practical Life areas. All of the materials that I would have kept out of their reach were readily available to these children. The scissors and glass items were being used with purpose and care.
