National Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 4th-10th
This year’s theme is…
“Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm.”
Here are some tips to help ensure a fire-free environment:
- Establish an escape plan with the children that includes two ways to get out of each room and a designated special place to come back together outside the home.
- Practice at least twice a year, I recommend it around daylight savings time.
- Matches and lighters should be kept in a locked cabinet.
I have invited the firefighters and emergency vehicles from Brevard County to speak with the children about Fire Safety. Of course, we know that the highlight of the day will be the “Fire Trucks”!
Grab everyone in your family and complete the Fire Prevention Week Checklist. If all boxes are checked, CONGRATULATIONS. If there are some boxes not checked, work together to help fix the problem.
Take a look around your home. You need a smoke alarm on every floor and inside every bedroom. Now you can help! Grab a grown-up and have them press the test button on each and every one to make sure they work.
